One thing I really want to embrace in my own style this year is styling the items in my closet versus wearing them. I feel like this concept is sometimes hard to understand but the difference between wearing and styling has very much caught my eye lately. The way a simple white tee under your sweater can make your look more thoughtful, adding a belt to your jeans and top, layering a scarf over your tee and cardigan or any extra layer to add dimension. I also love the intentional pop of color to make a statement! It’s funny, my style is very different than the type of images I save as inspo on Pinterest. I love the effortless but don’t always feel myself when I wear it, hence why you see a lot of color and print in my style. Either way! I love it all.
I have so many fun pieces in my closet but realized at the end of last year that I’m really lacking elevated basics. The fun stuff in my closet isn’t what makes up my daily style (I wish!) but the basics that layer well together, do. I want to be intentional about freshening up the styles I already own and giving more depth to my outfits.
A white button down shirt, a cute ball cap, layered necklaces, cool sneakers, a classic sweater thrown over your shoulder, a leather belt or a fun pop of red, an unexpected bag. These are all items that I think pack a punch and make even the most basic outfits instantly cool.
I put together a little collection of things I’m eyeing to add to my closet this year right here.
