Brave is the woman in a transparent heel bearing the human foot in all its anatomical nakedness. These are difficult shoes to make work (a sort of non-item anchoring an outfit to nothing), which, as anyone who lived through 2016 knows, will also function as a terrarium, in which varying bacteria flourish no matter the podiatric preening involved beforehand. There are few people willing to let their dogs out in public, and even fewer of us who want to see them collecting condensation in the process.

The designer’s been wearing several versions of this less-is-more stiletto for a while, sidestepping her reliable Balenciaga pantaboots for Alaïa’s Cœur pumps at Paris Fashion Week and Saint Laurent’s Chica slingbacks to lecture the students of Condé Nast College.
