Given it’s such a buzzy, highly-anticipated release, it was only natural that the two leading ladies brought out their finest attire for the step and repeat. Swinton attended the premiere wearing a look inspired by Chanel’s spring 2024 couture collection: She chose the label’s pleated, gray chiffon coat, which was embroidered with over 35,000 gray beads, rhinestones, and bejeweled buttons. Swinton paired the statement piece with straight-cut trousers in tulle and silk chiffon. “There is a tantalizing game that Gabrielle Chanel pioneered, and that the House of Chanel continues to play, with the assumptions associated with form and weight,” says Swinton. “This jacket delighted me on sight, but completely enchanted me when I put it on—super light and soft, supremely comfortable to move in, it felt to me.”
Swinton is no stranger to a classic Chanel tweed. Over the years, the star—who is a house ambassador—has worn many elegant creations from the French label. This time around, she was drawn to the light and muted silhouette of her latest look. “[It conjured] a child’s fantasy of Venice—princely and eternal, gossamer, and tough at the same time,” Swinton says of the design. “In a forest of grand gowns, the simplicity and modesty of this silhouette feels fresh and supremely modern.” We would have to agree.
