Thomas Jorion’s “Vestiges d’Empire” and “Veduta” at Podbielski Contemporary

From January 23 to March 21, Podbielski Contemporary displays a solo exhibition by the French photographer Thomas Jorion, famous for his large-format analog photography.

The gallery proposes two projects: “Vestiges d’Empire” and “Veduta”. “Vestiges d’Empire” narrates the story of the colonial past of France and the conquered territories from America to Senegal, India, Africa to South East Asia. The traces of this complex, ambivalent story can be seen in the architecture settlers built taking inspiration from the local one. The buildings photographed by Jorion are a testimony of the past which he tries to preserve from the passing of time. On the other hand, “Veduta” is a visual journey to a forgotten Italy, with a series of places that remind of a glorious, antique past. This last collection is the result of a ten-year exploration throughout the Country, looking for all the regions no longer inhabited and relegated to the margins.
