These smash burgers are my favorite recipe ever. They are SO EASY and so delicious. Just like your favorite greasy diner, these burgers are so easy to whip up (and prep ahead, hello Super Bowl) and cook in minutes.
Ground beef is one of those items I always have in my refrigerator. I buy it weekly whether it is for tacos, meatballs, burgers, bowls – it is a trusted product I know my whole family will eat. Well, add this smash burger recipe to your weekly meals. On this particular night we lightened them up with lettuce wraps but load them up on a buttery bun and you’re really in for a treat.

The Best Smash Burger Recipe
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef (makes 6 burgers)
1 tbsp mustard
1 tbsp ketchup
1/2 cup shredded colby jack cheese
salt + pepper to taste
American cheese slices
optional (but you kind of have to make the onions):
1 yellow onion thinly sliced
3 tbsp butter
kosher dill pickles, finely chopped
burger sauce:
1/2 tsp ketchup
1/2 yellow mustard
1 tbsp mayo
splash of pickle juice + some finely chopped dill pickles
dash of Worcestershire sauce
In a bowl, combine your ground beef, ketchup, mustard, shredded cheese and a couple pinches of salt and pepper. Once combined, divide your mixture into 6 balls. Lay out a piece of parchment paper, place your burger balls a few inches apart (may have to do this in a couple rounds for space), top with another piece of parchment paper and flatten with a spatula, bottom of a bowl or whatever you have in your kitchen (we have and love this MadeIn Griddle and Press).

You can store these in the refrigerator until you’re ready to cook (I display how I do that in this video here) or throw on a cast iron skillet or flat top grill. These cook very fast, just a couple minutes max on each side. We serve with two patties and a slice of American cheese. Top with onions (that you cook down in a nonstick skillet on low to medium heat with butter for 30-ish minutes, stirring occasionally). Top with pickles and your burger sauce and enjoy!!

My mouth is watering just looking at these photos. Yum!
