Tonight, the 2024 CFDA Awards red carpet served as a fashion playground for celebrities in attendance. As A-listers clocked in for duty at the annual ceremony, which celebrates the most innovative and creative American designers of the year, they committed to sporting bold designs—many of them attending as guests of the nominated designers, and serving as their muses for the evening. The best dressed stars of the night? Those who embodied the theme of the CFDAs—which is to embrace individuality, have a point-of-view, and yes, take risks.
Take Erykah Badu, who was awarded the Fashion Icon Award—in a look that was worthy of the title, no less. Wearing custom Thom Browne, Badu hit the carpet in his signature tailoring, though she couldn’t help giving it a cool, slouchy edge and completing the look with a theatrical gemstone headpiece. There is simply no one doing it like her. Do yourself a favor and look back on some of her best fashion moments here). Equally as head turning, was Kylie Jenner in her spiked-skirt gown by Haider Ackermann for Jean Paul Gaultier, which first debuted on the spring 2023 couture runway. Leave it to Jenner, a lover of archival fashion, to look back a few seasons and pull from one of the buzziest collaborations of recent times.
Trend-wise. black gowns certainly dominated the evening—though that didn’t mean it was boring. In fact, quite the contrary. Supermodel of the moment Alex Consani stood out in her Area Couture dress, which featured hand cutouts embracing her like a hug. The men shined, too: Troye Sivan put a fresh twist on suiting up, thanks to his Tanner Flecher lace camisole; Danny Ramirez also slipped into a baggy, wide-leg suit from Willy Chavarria. No boring tuxedos here!
