I’m excited to kick off the month with another “how to style” post! A few weeks ago, I wrote about Gen Z fashion trends worth trying, and I had so much fun with it that today, I’m diving even deeper into one of those trends—baggy jeans. While I know this denim style may not be for everyone, I encourage you to at least skim my thoughts below. I’ll be sharing my current favorite pieces as well as ideas on how to style baggy jeans. And who knows? After seeing some chic outfit ideas, you just might change your mind!
Styling posts have quickly become one of my favorite things to write, and you all seem to love reading them as well! I’m looking forward to creating even more in 2025. In case you missed them, here are a few favorites worth browsing:
The Baggy Jeans Comeback

Gen Z has recently leaned hard into Y2K style. With this, we’re seeing a major resurgence of baggy jeans, wide-leg denim, and overall more relaxed silhouettes. Does this mean you have to hop on the comeback train and start wearing jeans reminiscent of the early 2000s? Of course not! I’m all about finding your personal style and wearing what you love—what makes you feel your best.
So if you’re still a skinny-jean girly, don’t feel pressured to change! My personal fit preference still falls somewhere between baggy jeans and skinny jeans. My go-to denim is currently a straight-leg style, but I like to switch it up every now and then. That’s why I’ve slowly been adding more baggy jeans to my closet.
The Best Baggy Jeans
If you’re considering giving baggy jeans a try, it’s completely normal to feel a bit overwhelmed and unsure where to start. Believe it or not, there’s a whole range of baggy denim to choose from—low-rise, high-rise, cropped, ultra-long, light wash, deconstructed…the list goes on.
To help jumpstart your search for the perfect pair, I’m highlighting a few of my personal favorites. After all, the first step in learning how to style baggy jeans is selecting the right denim!
1. A Light Wash Everyday Jean
For a more casual, everyday pair, I’m loving these baggy jeans. They have a beautiful light wash and a relaxed lower rise. Not only are they comfortable, but they’re also super versatile. You could easily wear them during the daytime with a great pair of sneakers and a casual tee, then dress them up for dinner with heels.
2. Black Denim
If you prefer a cleaner look, I highly recommend these chic black jeans. I love that this style feels super elevated, with no sandblasting or distressing. They pair beautifully with a dressy top and heels.
I also own these black baggy jeans, which I love! However, this pair feels a bit more casual, and the color almost veers into grey territory. So it really depends on what you’re looking for—something dressy or more laid-back.
3. High-Rise Baggy Jeans
Most of the baggy jeans trending right now tend to be low-rise or even ultra-low-rise, which can be tricky if that fit isn’t your thing. But don’t worry—there are still some great options! This under $100 high-rise pair is one of my favorites.
When it comes to how to style baggy jeans in this silhouette, I think they look best with a belt and a relaxed top.
4. Dark-Wash Denim
I really love the look of these classic jeans, and they’re currently on sale! They offer the perfect combination of a relaxed leg, low rise, and dark rinse.
If you love a timeless aesthetic, this pair is a great starting point when figuring out how to style baggy jeans. They would look amazing with a sleek pair of mules and a fitted top. I also think they’d be gorgeous styled with an affordable chunky sweater and classic loafers.
5. Under $100 Jeans in Multiple Colors
Talk about options—these baggy jeans are under $100 and have a great fit! They come in 14 different colors and prints, making it easy to find exactly what you’re looking for. And the styling options are endless!
Personally, whenever I find a fit I love that’s offered in multiple shades, I like to scoop it up in more than one hue. It just makes sense, right!?
How to Style Baggy Jeans: Outfit Ideas That Are Easy to Recreate
Okay, now onto the fun part! Let’s talk about how to style baggy jeans for different occasions. Whether your vibe is simple and chic or classic and preppy, there’s a baggy jean outfit for everyone. It just takes a little experimenting to figure out what works best for you.
I’m going to walk you through a few of my favorite ways to wear baggy jeans in hopes that these looks will inspire you to hop on the baggy-jean trend train!
Volume On Volume
Since the fit is generous, most people instinctively pair baggy jeans with a more fitted top. But I’m here to encourage you to be adventurous and play around with volume on volume!
Try styling baggy jeans with an oversized button-down or a chunky sweater for a super relaxed, oversized look. To balance it out, add a feminine touch with my favorite ballet flats.
Keep It Clean
Completely switching gears here—let’s talk about how to style baggy jeans in a more sophisticated way. To achieve this, I’d opt for a mid- or high-rise style. From there, I’d add a belt, my favorite fitted tee (tucked in), and a classic yet sexy pump. This combination will help you pull off that elevated look you’re aiming for!
Make It Preppy
Baggy jeans outfits might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think “preppy,” but it’s definitely possible to add a modern touch to classic prep with these styles!
My suggestion for achieving this aesthetic is to pair low-rise jeans with Adidas sneakers, a classic button-down, a cable-knit V-neck sweater, and a modern trench coat. Top off the look with a classic baseball hat. This would be the ultimate off-duty NYC outfit!
How to Style Baggy Jeans During the Summertime
With warmer weather around the corner, let’s talk about how to style baggy jeans for the heat. In this case, I’d keep it super simple. Tuck a fitted racerback tank into baggy jeans for an elevated casual look. For this styling, opt for sleek, simple sandals. And to pull it all together, accessorize with layered jewelry and an oversized suede tote.
How to Style Baggy Jeans for a Travel Day
While it might not be your first instinct, baggy jeans are actually ideal for travel days! Compared to more fitted bottoms, I find the baggier styles much more comfortable when sitting on a plane or in the airport for long periods of time. This cashmere hoodie and these neutral sneakers would be the perfect travel companions for baggy jeans.
