Last week we visited the Virgin Islands for the first time! Let me start by saying WOW. I now see the hype around the Virgin Islands. What a special place! The community that is connected amongst these islands and the way you can island hop is really such a fun experience. We already can’t wait to go back!

We flew into St. Thomas from Charleston, connecting through Atlanta on the way there and Miami on the way home. It was an easy flight down to St. Thomas which has a very large airport, compared to other island airports I’ve experienced. Because St. Thomas is a US territory, there were no customs or long lines once arriving, a perk with kids (on the way home you do have to go through immigration claims to make sure you’re not bringing anything back but it was quick). We then booked a car service (that Lovango helped book for us) that drove us to the ferry to get to Lovango, a 25 minute drive. I had some questions on whether or not we packed a car seat for George and the car service we hired actually had a car seat available so we didn’t have to bring one which was great. The dock to grab the Lovango ferry has a great little restaurant so we grabbed some daiquiries and margaritas to go and hoped on the Lovango boat. The ferry to Lovango is only 10 minutes and BEAUTIFUL. I was amazed by how many islands are within the Virgin Islands, it is so hilly/mountainous. I wanted to note that Lovango has a ferry to/from both St. Thomas and Cruz Bay, St. John that runs a few times a day, which is so nice if you want to experience other islands!
*this was the view outside of our room one morning, can you believe it? So many little islands! I got some questions about the weather and there was some rain showers here and there but they only lasted 15 minutes. Then you’d get the most beautiful rainbows! It was a little windy a few days but honestly it was appreciated.
Pulling up to Lovango is magical! It is nestled on the hills and you are greeted with the most warm welcome (+ some yummy rum punch!). We stayed in two one-bedroom rooms that aren’t directly connected by a door but are in their own little entry. Since our boys are young, Dave slept with Charlie and Jack and I slept with George. I felt like this was best with little kids (who can’t be trusted just yet) but Lovango has some incredible Treehouse accommodations and 3 bedroom villas for families. We felt very comfortable in these rooms, the decor is classic/islandy, there is a little kitchenette with a Nespresso machine and refrigerator in each room and everyone slept amazing! Lovango has two restaurants on site – the SandPit which is by their pool and offers a delicious lunch and dinner menu. This is definitely their more casual menu and it sits right between the beach and pool. The beach and pool area are wonderful with full service options where you can book cabanas and chairs for the day. The other dining option on island is Lovango’s Waterfront Restaurant which is lovely for dinner. There is complimentary breakfast every day with the most incredible views at the top of the hill. Because Lovango is located on the cliffs, they have vehicles that bring you to and from your rooms (or you can hike down which we did every day with our kids!). Lovango isn’t your typical resort and feels much more “rustic luxury” I would call it. The Virgin Islands themselves feel so relaxed and easy, Lovango definitely reflects this but with luxury accommodations. There is no kids club, spa or traditional gym, which I got questions about. Lovango does have a great kids area on the beach with a ton of games and an entire little shopping area with 5 or so separate shops.
This was our lunch by the pool every day! Tuna poke, tuna wrap, hummus and pizza for the boys!
One night we took the ferry over to Cruz Bay on St. John and had dinner at The Longboard (which was so fun because they actually have a restaurant on Sullivan’s Island, too). Followed by ice cream at Scoops. Our meal was DELICIOUS and such a fun experience to island hop, probably my favorite night of the trip. Another fun excursion was our half day snorkeling trip that we booked through Northside Charters (again, Lovango helped schedule all of this for us!). It was the BEST DAY. We had the best captain, RJ Schmelter, and boped around to so many beautiful islands and beaches. We also had lunch on a floating pizza boat, Pizza Pi Vi, which the kids LOVED. This was our favorite day of the trip! We also went to Honeymoon Beach (on St. John), a 2 hour beach trip that is a quick 5-7 minute ferry ride from Lovango (they offer this trip to guests). The prettiest white sand beach with great snorkeling and a little lunch/drink shack on the beach. It was so much fun!!
