Broadway stars Rachel Zegler and Kit Connor breezed into The Run-Through’s studio impeccably dressed and ready to talk tragedy. The pair play Romeo and Juliet in director Sam Gold’s youthful interpretation of the Shakespeare classic, which includes vaping, a Doc Martens-wearing Capulet, and original scoring by Jack Antonoff. Gold has likened the production’s aesthetic to a Troye Sivan music video, while Zegler assures episode hosts Chloe Malle and Liam Hess that her Juliet definitely had a Brat girl summer.
During the conversation, Connor and Zegler also share their journey from first meeting to dying together eight times a week, what it’s like to navigate fashion while coming into fame, and how it was watching Antonoff work. (The show has been extended through February after opening on October 24.)
