Congratulations are in order for Armand ‘Mondo’ Duplantis and Desiré Inglander!
The 24-year-old Swedish-American pole vault star Duplantis is engaged to his girlfriend of four years, the 23-year-old Swedish model and content creator Inglander, after an elaborate surprise proposal in The Hamptons.
Vogue Scandinavia was invited by Duplantis to help plan and exclusively capture the intimate moment, with Inglander believing it was simply an editorial shoot for the magazine—before Duplantis got down on one knee towards the end of the day. He surprised her with the big question—and a sparkling substantial oval-cut diamond on a gold band—as the sun set over a sandy beach.
“This is way more nerve-wracking [than competing],” the pole vault world champion and Olympic gold medallist told Vogue Scandinavia ahead of the proposal. During and after the proposal, Inglander also expressed a state of disbelief. “I’m still shocked,” she said. “I’m such a control freak, it’s impossible to surprise me.” But Duplantis had one more surprise in store for Inglander: he had arranged for both of their families as well as Inglander’s closest Swedish friends to travel from Stockholm and Louisiana to celebrate their engagement just as the shoot wrapped.
Duplantis also shares that he has known Inglander was the woman he wanted to marry “for years”, ever since the couple met at a Midsummer party in 2020. He waited until after his Olympics triumph to stay planning, “on the way home actually—on the flight” he says. “The second after the Olympics was done, I was ready to do it.”
