If we had a nickel for every time Nicole Kidman starred in a sexually charged Christmas movie, we would have two nickels. Twenty-five years after Eyes Wide Shut, Babygirl follows Kidman as a high-powered CEO who enters into an S&M-ish relationship with her intern, played by Harris Dickinson.
While Kidman’s character Romy is outfitted in pussybow blouses and lace, the actor is taking her own approach to ultra-femme dressing offscreen. At the Los Angeles premiere of Babygirl, Kidman turned to longtime friend Balenciaga for a custom look. She wore a strapless bustier dress that fanned out into a sweeping train. Inspired by Cristóbal Balenciaga’s spring 1964 collection, the dress was coated in 3D pink and white organza flowers. As if the florals weren’t girlish enough, Kidman—styled by Jason Bolden—cinched her waist with a black satin bow belt.
Other attendees channeled the kinky themes. Halsey wore a pink latex minidress with white knee socks and pointy-toe black pumps, while her fiancé Avan Jogia wore a leather harness.
But perhaps the real babygirl of the evening was Dickinson. Despite efforts to channel his inner dom in a black leather jacket and slicked-back hair, he can’t escape his reputation as a sweetie. While he may not be the film’s titular babygirl (or, as one user wrote on Letterboxd, “terrible news: the babygirl is not harris dickinson”), he holds onto the title in real life. Sorry, Nicole Kidman, but Harris Dickinson is coming for your crown!
