If you’re looking to add some zest to your formalwear, allow Katie Holmes to serve as your guide.
Last night, Holmes supported Keiran Culkin and Bob Odenkirk at the Broadway premiere of David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross. (Also in attendance was Culkin’s Succession co-star Sarah Snook—who is starring in The Picture of Dorian Gray on Broadway herself.)
It’s safe to say that, by now, Holmes has mastered the art of dressing for the theater—after all, she recently starred in a production of Our Town at the Barrymore Theatre. Just last week, she walked the red carpet at the Othello premiere in a strapless black Khaite column dress with a sexy bustier top, which she paired with a faux snakeskin shoulder bag and a strappy, pointy shoe that covered only the tips of her first toes—both from Khaite.
Holmes seems to have mastered her night-out outfit formula. Last night, she opted for a semi-sheer navy AFLALO dress complete with a high neck and a cutout back, which she styled with a red Métier clutch. And, lately, no Katie Holmes red carpet outfit is complete without a statement shoe. This time, she wore a black heel with the subtlest sliver of toe peeking out.
So when considering a look for your next night out on the town, consider the Katie Holmes formula: a classic dress with a surprise twist (like a cutout or bustier), a bold bag, and—of course—some freaky footwear.
