While this does sound like the premise of a first date with an overactive Letterboxd subscriber, it’s actually how paparazzi found Katie Holmes last night. The actor was photographed heading to The Paris Theater in Midtown Manhattan for a screening of her 2003 film Pieces of April, where she was joined by filmmaker Peter Hedges and costars Patricia Clarkson and Derek Luke.
How does one dress to screen a film that came out over 20 years ago, though? It’s not exactly an occasion that demands a bespoke designer dress, or even a red carpet to walk on (just look at the wholesome, grainy Instagram story screenshot she posted of the crew). Let everywoman Katie Holmes, the doyenne of lowkey style, lead the way. Holmes turned to Rachel Comey for this unusual occasion, donning a dark emerald green mock neck top printed with brick red roses and made in a crinkle fabric. The New York designer also fashioned the actor’s statement shoes: a pair of kitten-heel, pointy-toe mules covered in a metallic indigo foil.
