Katie Holmes just gave a masterclass in elevating the little black dress. Last night, the actor—who recently starred in Our Town on Broadway—attended the opening night of Othello in a black strapless column dress that fell to her ankles. While the LBD from Khaite was already compelling thanks to a satin bustier peeking out from underneath the crepe body, accessories added some pizzaz to the classic look.
Holmes carrried a snakeskin shoulder bag (also Khaite) in the ultra-trendy East-West silhouette. But what really set her LBD apart was the addition of a freaky lil’ shoe. She wore a pair of Khaite Bella T-strap sandals complete with an ankle strap, a nearly-2-inch heel, and—most freakily of all—a covered pointy toe, like a reverse shoe mullet. (Between Khaite and Tory Burch, the subverted toe is already a growing trend among the freaky shoe lovers.)

The following day, Holmes once again trotted out a pair of eye-catching footwear. The actor hit the rainy New York City streets not in rain boots, but a pair of gathered black leather Jil Sander ballet flats. The glove-like shoe clung to Holmes’s feet and featured a pull-on tab on the heel. The entire look had all the trappings of a typical Katie Holmes ’fit: she styled the funky shoes with cropped patchwork jeans, a printed blouse, a calf-length brown jacket, and multiple tote bags.
Whether she’s red carpet ready or running errands, Katie Holmes proves that the outlandish shoe works for any occasion.
