Jennifer Lopez is a manicure girl. The originator of milky tones, lip gloss, and sweater weather manicures (just to name a few) she’s always having fun and pushing the boundaries of beauty when it comes to her nails.
Today, through her go-to nail artist Tom Bachik‘s Instagram, Lopez kept that trend going—and was maybe sending us a sign, too. At the start of the year, the multi-hyphenate entered a new single-girl era. And while you may assume she’d want to channel the confidence and ferocity of a lion (her star sign), apparently a butterfly is more of her speed for this phase of life. At least, when it comes to her manicure.
To create the bedazzled manicure, which Bachik calls the “Butterfly Kisses” look, the nail artist traced black 2000s-style butterflies on J.Lo’s opalescent nails. To complete the look, dozens of Swarovski stones were added—clearly to match the outfit Lopez is wearing in the photo to match the look.
Across literature and film, butterflies have always been associated with moments of rebirth and transformation. The bug starts as a caterpillar before building a cocoon around itself and emerging entirely anew. Perhaps, that’s what Lopez is channeling in this moment. And if not? Well, it’s a gorgeous manicure.
