In her Substack article βThe Limitations to Finding Your Personal Style,β Subrina Heyink recently wrote:
[Personal style] has nothing to do with uniqueness. It is about observing oneself and choosing what you like while respecting imposed restrictions from religion, work, and location.
True personal style is antithetical to uniqueness. Whatever you think is unique to you right now may become mainstream. You cannot control that and if you try to avoid it, you will end up spending a lot of money constantly changing your look to maintain your individuality.
This made me sigh in relief.
At one point during 2024, I was ingesting so much content on how to create a *unique* personal style, that it became counterproductive.
It made me hyper aware that what I wore was either too everywhere or too nowhere (or somehow both?!).
I propose a radical new way to get dressed in 2025. Itβs called:
Like what you like and let that be your personal style.Β π
If youβre ingesting too much info about personal style, and itβs feeling pressure-y, maybe just give that kind of content a break for a little while. Give your personal style a bit of instant relief.
