I’ve realized that I am afraid of repeating trends. You see this outfit is very 2016 to me in my mind at least. This is something I would have worn, probably did wear but I’m too lazy to go through my archives, in that year of style blogging. So when I pulled this outfit together I stopped in my tracks and thought wait — can I wear this? I know you’re thinking what a ridiculous thing to ask when I’m *literally* wearing the outfit. Of course I can but is it…out of style? If it’s been done, can it be done again? I realized that I am in a unique position that not a lot of people experience — the majority of my outfits have been documented and photographed for the last 15 years. Not only on the internet to be saved, or pinned or critiqued, but also most of the outfits are archived in my mind. Much like Taylor’s album eras, I too have eras of style. Kerrville, Shop Girl, travel era, etc. Many times I don’t reach for what I truly want to wear because it feels “done”, it feels like I can’t redo something because it’s past tense and we are on to the next trend, always moving forward. But honestly this outfit is pure Kendi — denim shorts, a long sleeve top that’s very Anthro-coded (because it is) and high heels, which I’m also getting re-acquainted with as well. Sometimes an outfit just feels like home and this outfit combination is one of them. Is this outfit new, old, classic? I have no idea but I just know I really like it.
I’m wearing this lace top from Anthropologie which fits a bit loose overall. (I’m in the large.) My trusty pair of Agolde Parker shorts and this pair of Marc Fisher platforms from the Anniversary Sale.
