What an expert says about sleep and magnesium
Naturally, I wanted to know from an expert what her opinion was on the magnesium trend. Jessica Sepel, nutritionist and founder of JSHealth Vitamins, is a big fan: “Magnesium is a mineral that is involved in over 300 chemical processes in the body. I like to think of it as a kind of relaxation in tablet form,” says the expert. According to her, this effect comes from two properties of the supplement: “Magnesium is known for its relaxing effects on the muscles and its supportive function in energy production. It is a wonderful way to prepare the body for rest and the regeneration processes that take place at night.” According to the expert, magnesium can also help to lower our cortisol and therefore stress levels and support the function of our nervous system.
What you should look out for when buying magnesium
According to Sepel, it is worth taking a look at the ingredients of the supplement in order to benefit as much as possible from these properties: “Not all magnesium supplements are the same. The type and amount of magnesium contained is important when choosing a high-quality supplement.”
I’ve noticed these changes since I’ve been taking magnesium every night
I’ve been taking a magnesium tablet every night before bed for three months now and I have to say: I’m a fan of the trend. I have noticed that I fall asleep more quickly, but above all, I really sleep through the night. Probably the biggest change is that I get up straight away. I usually hit the snooze button at least three times, but since taking magnesium before sleep, I wake up full of energy and want to get up. I’m really surprised at the results.
