It is, definitely and incontrovertibly, a Sabrina Carpenter summer (please don’t remind me that we’re hot on the heels of Labor Day; I need to believe it’s still beach weather for as long as I possibly can), and nobody seems to be more keenly aware of that than Barry Keoghan. The Saltburn star has responded to rumors that he and Carpenter had broken up via the time-honored tradition of Posting Through It—but at least his comment on Carpenter’s post announcing the new digital album version of Short n’ Sweet is, well, sweet, if a little bro-y:

To be clear, we still don’t really know where things stand between the lovers; all we have to go on is an anonymous source telling People last week that the two were “on and off.” Even if that’s true, I have to admit I’m impressed with Keoghan’s unabashed standom. Yes, it should be the norm for male partners to celebrate their girlfriends’ or wives’ (or situationships’, as the case may be) accomplishments with utter joy and pride, but unfortunately, it’s simply not—so seeing Keoghan post on his Instagram stories about how “Bed Chem” is his favorite song off Short n’ Sweet, (or as the man put it himself, “BED CHEM my fave just saying m’ darlin”) is both a little bit corny and extremely heartwarming to me. How can you not have a little bit of a crush on a guy who expresses himself online like a loving but slightly taciturn Irish uncle?
Whether Keoghan and Carpenter are together at this point or not, I hope this trend of Keoghan taking to social media to post about Carpenter’s music like a besotted tween continues. Now I just need Sabrina to start frantically Banshees of Inisherin-posting and declaring her love for The Killing of a Sacred Deer all over Letterboxd, and the circle of love will be complete. I still hope we get another Met Gala red-carpet appearance out of Carpenter and Keoghan, but sometimes? The standom is enough.
