Coco Brandolini D’Adda and Christian Louboutin’s capsule collection is available at Christian Louboutin’s Madison Avenue store, 965-967 Madison Ave, 10021 New York.
Coco Brandolini D’Adda’s relationship with Christian Louboutin began with a pair of gilded boots crafted in molded gold and black leather, a gifted from her uncle Leonello Brandolini D’Adda, Christian Louboutin remembers the call from Leonello looking for something for his teenage niece, remarking that a young Coco was already very sophisticated in the way she dressed.
Those special shoes have sparked more than just good outfits over the years. Coco and Christian became dear friends, and traveled the world together (they both note Peru as a favorite of their many far-flung destinations) while Christian led his namesake brand and Coco worked for Dolce & Gabbana, Oscar de la Renta, and Alberta Ferretti before launching her own line, D’Adda. Decades later, they are finally working together, and the warmth with which they speak of each other is exactly what you hope for when you hear of designers partnering up. “I wanted my first collaboration to be with someone I not only love but admire,” Brandolini D’Adda told Vogue. She still wears the gold and black boots.
The new capsule collections spans the fantastical and the practical. Butterfly embellished heels with a gold jacquard peep toe, black floral flats, and, of course, some wonderful leather molded boots trimmed with fabric. It’s all very Coco, who says she would never make something she wouldn’t wear herself. Christian agrees. He sees her in all of these creations and celebrates both her consistent style and her dedication to being a working woman with multiple jobs to do—dedicated mother, designer, business executive—in these shoes. Throughout the design process, he says Coco was particularly exacting when a heel was slightly too high for all-day wear. She also brought her flair for collecting objects and fabric from around the world to the project, which adds to the uniqueness of each pair.
It’s hard to imagine two more kindred spirits coming together to create a collection. For shoes with a famous red bottom, it’s a very soulful offering straight from the heart.
