It’s mid-November, which may conjure visions of roasted turkey and red-cheeked games of touch football for some, but for me, this month is synonymous with one thing and one thing only: my annual Gilmore Girls rewatch. When I lived on the East Coast, I used to restart the Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel-led show the minute the leaves turned in September, but now that I’m based in Los Angeles—where it only just became a tiny bit crisp out, like, a day ago—catching up with the Gilmores has become a Thanksgiving-adjacent activity.
While there are lots of great Thanksgiving episodes of Gilmore Girls, personally, I’m partial to the show’s December-centered fare: Graham’s Lorelai and Bledel’s Rory were as messy and nontraditional about Christmas as I tend to be, with Lorelai saving her enthusiasm for the first frost (which, again, I would have to drive roughly four hours into the California mountains to witness for myself, not that I’m bitter). Still, catching up with the mother-daughter duo’s onscreen exploits never fails to get me into the holiday spirit.
To that end, below, a power ranking of all the Gilmore Girls Christmas episodes:
