Emma Corrin Is Disrupting the Naked Dress Trend This Party Season

In a couple of weeks, Vogue will publish a round-up of 2024’s best-dressed celebrities. Emma Corrin could very well take the top spot. That much was obvious when they did the red-carpet rounds while promoting Deadpool & Wolverine in gartered Saint Laurent dresses, corsetted Schiaparelli jackets crafted from rows of buckled belts, and a feathered Dilara Findikoglu showpiece dipped in silicone. With a little help from stylist Harry Lambert, Corrin has created a new standard for red-carpet dressing where conventional glamour is something to be challenged and unsettled.

Last night, the actor returned to the red carpet for the Berlin premiere of Robert Eggers’s Nosferatu–in which they play a despairing Transylvanian wife–in a Saint Laurent mini cut from contrasting layers of transparent blue, green, and red lace with vicious, gold-capped sling-backs. It was a naked dress, sure, but without the obvious eroticism. The colors alone are a sort of anti-aphrodisiac, which is, of course, what makes the look so desirable.

The look first appeared on Anthony Vaccarello’s spring 2025 catwalk, alongside mannish tailoring, voluminous greatcoats, and wide-set ties inspired by Yves Saint Laurent’s personal wardrobe. It was among the most successful of the season’s collections. “It is getting harder and harder to identify a singularity of handwriting from designers,” Vogue’s fashion news director Mark Holgate wrote in a review. “Blandness of unyielding ‘good,’ ‘safe’ taste has crept in and outstayed its welcome. It’s certainly safe to say that Vaccarello has shown it the door.” The same, I think, could be said for Emma Corrin and Harry Lambert.
