After years of wire-rimmed, librarian chic glasses dominating the trend cycle, Dua Lipa is ready for a new eyewear era.
While we’re used to seeing her wearing Chanel, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Balenciaga on her fashion-filled Radical Optimism tour, the singer opted for a more low-key travel day look. Lipa departed Melbourne in a pink and black striped cardigan and tank top, a black trench coat, and blue jeans with a raw hem that dragged underneath her black ballet flats.

A consummate accessorizer, she schlepped both her well-decorated Hermès Birkin and her black quilted Chanel 25 (of which she is the face). But what really stands out about Lipa’s look are her glasses: a pair of thick black frames from Gucci. More Tom Ford than Miu Miu, they’re a far cry from the dainty eyeglasses beloved by office sirens and coquettes alike.
Dua Lipa may be signaling a swinging pendulum with her specs. She’s not alone. Fellow trendsetter Bella Hadid has also been embracing thicker frames of late. Maybe we’re ready to move on from the Bayonetta glasses once and for all.
