Last night, Donatella Versace was honored with the 2024 Prophets of Philanthropy Award, given by The Galileo Foundation, to mark her lifelong commitment to LGBTQIA+ advocacy and her work promoting equality and human rights. “I am humbled to be made a Prophet of Philanthropy by The Galileo Foundation,” she said after being presented with the award by former British Vogue editor Edward Enninful. “It inspires me to continue to give a voice to the LGBTQ+ community globally. I am a proud ally, and our support has never been more important. We must do everything we can to make this world a fairer and more equitable place.”
The awards were presented during the second Faith and Philanthropy Summit, which took place at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, England. (The first summit was held in the Vatican in 2022 under the auspices of Pope Francis.) Also honored at this year’s ceremony were the actor and activist Sharon Stone; Mary Robinson, Ireland’s first female president, who served in office from 1990 to 1997; and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra and its founder, Daniel Barenboim. The Galileo Foundation was founded in 2017 by John McCaffrey to support the work of the Pontifical Academies of Sciences and Social Sciences, paying particular attention to the issue of human trafficking.
