Coffee with Liz — Hello Adams Family

How do you limit your screen time? I’m trying to be more present in my life.

When my kids are around I really try to leave my phone in one place and not let it travel around the home with me. Caroline Chambers mentioned thinking of her phone like a land-line in her 2025 resolutions and I really love that thought. Of course there are moments where I need to veg out and can scroll aimlessly for an hour, but otherwise I really crave the break from my phone. I also regularly delete the apps that consume my attention on my phone (Instagram) and it really opens my eyes to how often I can aimlessly grab my phone to click into those apps. Maybe that is a good test to see how much time you’re wasting on your phone? I sometimes need that kick in the butt to get myself in check.

What are your favorite one piece bathing suits this season?

Minnow makes some of my favorite/most flattering one pieces for women! The fit is so smoothing and it has a nice cut at the thigh that lengthens your legs. I love this print (I size up to a medium) and I already own this one! Karla Colletto’s swimsuits are expensive but truly the most flattering – they have a built in underwire that you can’t see but makes your boobs look great. I ordered this one and this one (living in Charleston we wear swimsuits most of the year so I feel like I can justify the price).

What are your thoughts on micro needling? Have you seen changes and will you continue?

I am obsessed! I actually have an appointment for it next week. I notice a huge difference in the tightness of my skin and the evenness of my skin tone. Initially you do 3 sessions about 6 weeks apart and then maintenance every 6 months or so? Highly recommend!

Can you share some summer black tie wedding guest dress ideas?

This printed dress is such a statement and sophisticated, the print mix and silhouette of this dress is so fun, I love this polka dot dress and you can’t go wrong with this simple black dress and fun earrings (or an amazing necklace).

What are your favorite self care tips for getting through tough seasons of life?

I think asking for help so you can dedicate some time to you and doing things that feel like a personal indulgence. For me that looks like a community workout class, going on a walk, getting my nails done or scheduling a hair appointment. On a more detailed level I like to write down what is running through my brain, let that energy out of your body and put it on paper so you can release it from your brain. I love buying myself a pretty journal and keeping it on my nightstand.

You mentioned feeling insecure about your body – how do you handle and not let it derail you?

Honestly this is a day to day struggle. I think a big part of it is seeing so many people around me quickly losing weight and feeling like I wish it were easier or a little defeated? I am also just more aware that my body is changing as I get older and it is hard to indulge and harder to recover! I think I live a pretty balanced lifestyle so I have to remind myself that anything extreme isn’t going to be sustainable. I’m doing my best! Sometimes I feel like the less I care, the less it matters!

Can you recommend some special Mother’s Day jewelry under $500?

These DRD mini diamond huggies are so gorgeous! Perfect for everyday, dainty and timeless. I really love Hart’s personalized necklaces and their charm bracelets are special because you can continue to add to them! I also love Goldbug’s engravable charms.

How much content do we miss by not subscribing to Substack?

I decided to move my more vulnerable, in the moment personal chats to Substack and behind a paywall. With the internet feeling like a black hole, I feel a little safer speaking openly over there. I will still always share posts here! I’ve just decided to put a paywall behind my personal content for a little more security. Thanks for understanding that! And also no pressure to go over there at all!! You know I am always an open book and love to chat about all the things. If you ever have something personal you want to discuss with me you can always email me – liz@helloadamsfamily.com.

What are your favorite vacations you’ve ever taken?

My sister and I went to Europe for 3 weeks right after graduating college which is still one of my favorite experiences ever! Aside from that Dave and I did a trip to Lake Louise and Banff for our 5 year wedding anniversary. I love our spring break trips to the Caribbean with the kids. You can see some travel posts here!

Do you plan to stay in your home forever?

I hope so! I guess forever feels really long but I really connect deeply to the feeling of home and don’t see ourselves moving when the kids are young/in school. We love our house and location and our neighbors I feel like I could never leave, ha. We have plans to make small cosmetic updates to our house over the years to really make it exactly what we want (kitchen face lift, update fireplaces, new windows, currently updating our outdoor space + adding a pool!). I really am not seeking anything more than we already have and feel so beyond content/happy with our home.
