Last night, Burberry closed London Fashion Week in spectacular fashion at the Tate Britain, with a show celebrating a very British spirit of country house chic—which also featured a star-studded lineup of models (Naomi! Karen! Erin! Edie!) that included some of this sceptered isle’s finest acting talents (Richard E. Grant! Lesley Manville! Jason Isaacs!). So it came as little surprise that, once the crowds had made their way out of the museum’s Duveen Galleries—trussed up for the occasion with enormous wall hangings of a misty autumnal English landscape—and into Mayfair for the after-party, the turnout was equally starry.
In the moody surroundings of The Twenty Two hotel’s basement-bar—all red velvet banquettes, dimmed lamps, and leopard-print carpet—a steady stream of fashion and film glitterati made a beeline to the bar for Champagne and Ciroc vodka sours. Models congregated outside in the smoking area, naturally, while the Burberry PR team could be spotted clinking glasses to celebrate their blockbuster show going off without a hitch. One of Burberry’s current faces, Kit Butler, swapped notes with stylist and British Vogue contributing fashion editor Harry Lambert on the best looks from the show, while Ncuti Gatwa slunk inconspicuously through the swelling crowd to get the dancefloor going. (Meanwhile, Isaacs and his wife Emma Hewitt made an early exit before the late-night hijinks truly kicked off.)
“I really enjoyed the characters, and how the people lived in this old incredible mansion house, and dressed in a really eccentric way for dinner, and had crazy parties,” Burberry’s creative director Daniel Lee told Vogue ahead of last night’s show. There were certainly no murders in the maze last night (that I heard of, anyway), but in terms of decadence, the party was more than worthy of Saltburn’s upper-crust hedonists.
