How much more can we say with method dressing before 2024 goes up in a puff of smoke? Well, Ariana Grande and her Glinda-coded wardrobe was always going to have the last (magic) word.
The Wicked actor attended the Golden Globes First-Time Nominee Celebration luncheon at The Maybourne Beverly Hills on Tuesday (December 19), celebrating her own first-time nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role as Glinda. For the event, it was only right that Grande and stylist Mimi Cuttrell pulled some Saint Laurent-era Dior—a true golden era of couture and Hollywood bombshells.
Grande wore a champagne-hued satin dress from 1959, with thick straps and a belt that fell into a tea-length hemline. She finished the look with matching pointed satin heels and pearly earrings. Her side parted hair was pulled back in a signature ponytail, with pearlescent makeup and a slick pink lip.
The Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall Winter 1959 dress was sourced by Aralda Vintage in Los Angeles. Nicole Ritchie, Christina Aguilera, and Sabrina Carpenter are all customers of Aralda Vintage—it’s where Carpenter picked up her fuzzy and fantastic Chanel 1994 black and white look.
It sits on the more subtle side of Grande’s press tour and awards season wardrobe, with its muted color palette, but still recalls the ultra-feminine, celestial energy of old Hollywood Oz with its retro silhouette and shine. Elsewhere across the press tour, Grande has relied on custom looks from Louis Vuitton, Bode, Thom Browne, and Ralph Lauren.
Others in attendance included Pamela Anderson, Anora’s Mikey Madison, and Zoe Saldaña of Emilia Pérez. The Last Showgirl star Anderson and Grande were photographed sharing a sweet moment at the luncheon, in similarly pearly hues.
