An Exclusive Look Inside Olympic Medalist PV Sindhu and Venkata Datta Sai’s Wedding on a Private Island in Udaipur

Pusarla Venkata Sindhu—better known as the badminton star PV Sindhu—and Venkata Datta Sai had known each other for years, but only as friends. Then, a chance meeting in the clouds in October 2022 kickstarted their love story. “Everything changed when we reconnected on a flight,” remembers PV. “That journey brought us closer, and it felt like the stars aligned. It was almost like love at first sight, and from that moment on, everything just felt right.”

PV and Datta, who works in tech and finance, decided it was time to take the next major step in their relationship. “Our engagement was a deeply intimate affair, attended only by those closest to us,” PV recalls. “It wasn’t about grandeur, but about celebrating this milestone with the people who truly matter. The moment was emotional, meaningful, and something we will cherish forever.”

Wedding planning quickly began to come together after the couple chose to get married at Raffles Udaipur, a luxe resort on a 21-acre private island that could serve as a perfect setting for multiple days of events. “The serene beauty of the venue perfectly complemented the joy and warmth of the occasion,” notes the bride. Along with support from RVR Eventz & Design, PV and Datta dove into planning every nuance of their nuptials.

“Planning our wedding was a beautiful yet challenging journey,” reflects PV. “Despite my demanding schedule as a professional athlete, I had a clear vision of what I wanted for our big day and planned every detail meticulously. Datta, on the other hand, made sure my dreams came to life by managing the execution seamlessly. Together, we ran a tight ship and ensured that every aspect of the wedding reflected our story and personalities.”

The three days of festivities, which took place this past weekend, included a sangeet, a haldi, a pellikuthuru, a Bridgerton-inspired mehendi, a varmala, and a wedding ceremony. Each event featured different décor, color schemes, and attire befitting the celebration. “I knew exactly what I wanted,” shares PV of her wardrobe. “For the varmala ceremony, I wore a breathtaking creation by Sabyasachi, and for the wedding, I chose an exquisite ensemble by Manish Malhotra. Every piece of jewelry was carefully selected to complement my outfits, adding to the grace and elegance. Datta, inspired by my choices, ensured his attire beautifully complemented mine.” To realize her looks, the bride worked with stylist Bornali Caldeiraa and makeup artist Sandy’s Artistry. The couple also had their closest circle dress for the occasion. “Our wedding party looked stunning in traditional Kanchivaram sarees,” PV says. “The coordinated colors and designs made everything look so vibrant and special.”

The wedding day began with an intimate Telugu ceremony with blessings from the couple’s elders. “The rituals were meaningful and heartwarming, creating memories we’ll cherish forever,” says PV, who describes the pair as being overwhelmed by emotion. “I had tears in my eyes throughout, deeply moved by the love and warmth surrounding me. Datta felt a profound sense of joy and gratitude, knowing that the two-year journey, with all its challenges, was truly worth it in the end.” After the ceremony, the day continued with various rituals and games. “Sharing food, playing games, and being surrounded by the love of our families made it all so special,” says the bride.

Reflecting on her wedding day, PV shares how grateful she is for the support of everyone who helped bring the couple’s vision to life. “This wedding wasn’t just about us; it was about the love, effort, and blessings of everyone who stood by us,” she shares. “Marrying the love of your life is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and having the love and support of our families has made it even more meaningful.”
