“Alternative horizons” by Fondazione Luciana Matalon

From February 28 to March 29, Fondazione Luciana Matalon hosts twenty-three photographs by Gianmarco Taietti exploring what remains of a landscape or place when stripped of mass tourism and its drifts. With a black and white narration, Taietti portrays seven different countries from Sardinia to Valle D’Aosta to Romania and Malaysia, eluding the postcard iconography to grasp instead the real essence of the places he visited. This directness can be seen in the black and white photographs: it’s not a mere stylistic choice but an invitation to re-discover Nature with the simplicity and authenticity promoted by Thoreau in Walden.

The artist portrays the struggle between humans and Nature, but unlike the dominant apocalyptic narration that often dominates the public discourse, he proposes coexistence and dialogue even if fractured. The exhibition challenges the rhetoric of idyllic places and reconfigures a new way of seeing.
