Cate Blanchett may not have been sitting front row at Paris Fashion Week, but the actor is already wearing looks that walked the runway mere days ago.
Not one day after Sarah Burton showed her inaugural collection for Givenchy, Blanchett appeared at the New York premiere of her film Black Bag wearing a look from the show: a black leather bomber and midi skirt with a cinched waist, double-zipper collar, and rounded shoulders. But Blanchett didn’t stop there. On Monday, she wore an eye-catching look from Haider Ackermann’s first collection for Tom Ford—less than a week after it first came down the catwalk. She opted for a dusty pink suit with a neon green blouse underneath, which she wore with oversized cat-eye sunglasses and black pumps.
While the two looks were worlds apart, aesthetically speaking, they scratched the same sartorial itch. Both come from buzzy debut collections from designers with whom Blanchett has a rich history. (She attended the 2012 Met Gala with Burton, and watched her take her final bow at Alexander McQueen in 2023; In May, Blanchett wore a dress from Ackermann’s Jean Paul Gaultier couture collection to the Cannes premiere of The Apprentice.) And while the sloped shoulders of the black leather Givenchy were by all accounts the total opposite of the sharp-shouldered, candy-colored Tom Ford suit, both speak to a love of impeccable tailoring, be it hard or soft.
If this week has proven anything, it’s that Cate Blanchett is a force of fashion, no matter what she’s wearing. It doesn’t hurt if it’s fresh off the runway, though.
