It should come as no surprise that A Star Is Born lead Lady Gaga is a musical theater afficionado. But the singer even managed to incorporate a nod into her latest look.
Yesterday, Gaga arrived at rehearsals for SNL’s 50th anniversary special dressed in an austere all-black look from Willy Chavarria’s fall 2025 collection: a black midi coat dress with a structured shoulder, swishy hem, and white kerchief peeking out of her breast pocket. But we couldn’t help but notice the singer’s shoes: a pair of pointy-toe lace-up booties—Jimmy Choo’s Scarlett boots, to be exact. The calf-high boot looked like a high-fashion reimagining of the Can Can boot, or something worn by a very chic member of The Music Man cast.
Great minds think alike, it turns out. Last night, Anya Taylor-Joy also sported a pair of lace-up boots while attending Danielle Haim’s birthday party at Joyface in Manhattan’s East Village—albeit a much different interpretation. Taylor-Joy chose a pair of banana yellow KNWLS boots, complete with a pointy toe, buckle detail, and exaggerated tongue. The statement-making shoes served as a bright pop of color against her brown suede trench coat and black leather gloves.

So, whether or not you count yourself as a musical theater fan, consider taking a page out of Lady Gaga and Anya Taylor-Joy’s books this winter and investing in a pair of Can Can boots.
