1 month x 5 outfit recipes

Last month, inspired by Liza Belmonte’s 7 Outfits of the Season, I sat down and figured out the most common scenarios that pop up in my day to day life, then came up with a loose outfit formula to apply to each scenario.

It was so helpful that I want to do this every month!

So, here I am again, ready to share my 5 life scenarios and outfit recipes. Let’s do it!

First up, here are my 5 most common life scenarios:

1 | Working from a coffee shop

2 | At a friend’s house

3 | Walks / yoga

4 | Cozy night in at home

5 | Night out

Now keep scrolling for the outfits recipes I’ll be riffing off of all month.

1 | Working from a coffee shop

THE BASIC RECIPE:

Low rise trousers + Big sweater (size up for oversized fit) + Sneakers

FINISH IT WITH:

SocksCanvas tote + Sculptural necklace + Baseball cap

CARO’S THOUGHTS:

Oooh this one is chic! But while it looks chic, the soft trousers + oversized sweater keep me feeling nice and comfy (no pinching waist!). And the baseball cap and sneakers keep it grounded in my signature sporty style. Very into olive green with black and white right now.

2 | At a friend’s house

THE BASIC RECIPE:

Track pants + Big sweater + Wool-cashmere coat + Running shoes

FINISH IT WITH:

Socks + Crossbody bag + Silver earrings + Sunglasses

CARO’S THOUGHTS:

I wear some version of this outfit at least once a week, and I’m not quitting any time soon. Still ultra comfy, but the sweater (not a sweatshirt) and wool coat give it major style points. Hair is a key accessory with this outfit — I like to curl my hair to give the whole thing a more “dressed” vibe. If I were a slicked back bun girlie, I’d do that, but I never feel great with a slicked back bun. Those of you who rock it — got any tips for us?

3 | Walks / yoga

THE BASIC RECIPE:

Windbreaker + Leggings + Fleece + Running shoes

FINISH IT WITH:

Socks + Beanie + Sunglasses

CARO’S THOUGHTS:

This outfit looks so plain, yet I feel amazing when I have it on. For me, it all comes down to the magic of the specific pieces. Good slouchy socks. The Nike V2k’s. A high-pile fleece. A cool pair of sunglasses. And this absolute HERO of a windbreaker.

If you’re not in need of a windbreaker, skip ahead. But if you are, keep reading. Because I gotta gush about this Lululemon windbreaker for a moment. I got mine in 2019 (2019!). I wear it on all my daily walks, and just recently started incorporating it into my regular daily outfits too. It’s got form and function: wind proof; surprisingly warm for a thin layer; easy to fit layers underneath (I usually do a long sleeve tee and a sweatshirt underneath); foldable hood; tall collar that also helps with wind; pockets galore, inside and out; plus it’s just got a cute and flattering shape. 10/10 recommend. Such a solid piece. So happy they still make it.

4 | Cozy Night In

THE BASIC RECIPE:

Straight leg sweat pants + Fitted long sleeve top + Slippers

FINISH IT WITH:

Claw clip

CARO’S THOUGHTS:

Often my night-in default is a matching sweats set that’s so big I can drown in it.

That’s great!

And also!

I’ve been enjoying putting a little bit of extra care into what I wear around the house too. This one feels a little cuter than my typical sweats. It’s got that contrast of proportions (wide leg sweatpants + fitted top), plus a little bit of a color story going on (grey, black, tan/tortoiseshell). Also that deep-v top! Gorgeous.

5 | Night out

THE BASIC RECIPE:

Long cashmere coat + Boots + Denim mini skirt + Polo sweater

FINISH IT WITH:

Silver earrings + Belt + Olive green bag

CARO’S THOUGHTS:

A fancy-ish night out is kinda rare, but it does happen! And when it does, this is exactly what I want to be wearing. I could not love this outfit more. It feels like me, but dressed up. Love the way the silver accessories add a little glimmer. And here I go again with that black / white / olive green color palette. It’s a good one!
