While the 30th annual Critics Choice Awards 2025 was a more muted affair this year, with attendees’ fashion choices leaning more into darker tones and simple silhouettes, there remained some dynamic moments.
One being Nicole Kidman: the star of Babygirl decided to channel her co-star Harris Dickinson’s character Samuel in a structured blazer and pleated greige pants from Saint Laurent spring 2025. Kidman wore her voluminous blonde hair parted in the middle with subtle but well-defined waves.
Diverging from the Saint Laurent runway styling, Kidman wore the suit with a pale blue shirt and navy blue tie with white polka dots. Very important day in the big office vibe. For footwear, she wore black pointed pumps. The angular silhouette of the jacket, juxtaposed with the more fluid pants, reflected an assured sense of corporate power.
And it makes total sense, then, when you consider the Saint Laurent spring 2025 foundations. “My last men’s show in March had been all about tailoring, but based on flou; I wanted this one to be the opposite—more strict,” Anthony Vaccarello of Saint Laurent said of the collection Kidman’s suit comes from. “It’s not about when I would do a tuxedo for a woman which was worn naked underneath. The suits come with shirts, ties. You’re dressed. It’s about control, and power, in a way.”
While the look definitely channels more the energy of Kidman’s character’s sexual fantasy rather than company intern vibe, it also reflects the enduring power of the suit on this current awards season circuit. Case en point: Ayo Edebiri’s expert referencing of the Julia Roberts moment with markedly masculine tailoring at the 2025 Golden Globes.
Kidman was nominated not for Babygirl, but for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her work in Special Ops: Lioness for the Critics Choice Awards.
