We know, the festive season has barely lapsed, and most of us are struggling to part ways with dressing gowns and PJs worn for a day or two too long—not even a week into the year, high glamour probably isn’t top of your dressing agenda. It is, however, for Hollywood’s pantheon of stars, as the 2025 Golden Globes well proved—and so, therefore, it is for us.
If the ceremony taught us anything, it’s that dress-as-manifestation is set to be a trend to watch across the red carpets to come, with a plethora of celebs cladding themselves in the color of the gongs they were going for: gold.
Yes, gold to the Golden Globes! Groundbreaking, we know. But honestly, even if it may seem obvious, it proved a winning formula for Ariana Grande, Kristen Bell, Kelsey Merritt, Eiza González, Elle Fanning, Nikki Glaser, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling… And who are we—or you, for that matter!—to argue with that list. Oh, and one more, if we’re really talking about winning: Demi Moore, who took to the stage to pick up an overly deserved gong for her arresting turn in The Substance—and deliver one of the night’s most moving speeches – in a strapless gilded mermaid gown.
Granted, not all the looks that glittered on this year’s red carpet were gold. In many cases, as we earlier reported, they were sequined! Still, if there’s anything we’re taking from the opener to the 2025 awards season, it’s that dressing like a trophy really does stand you a decent chance of winning one.
