“Today, it’s really just going to be about the eye,” Alex Consani says, preparing to walk Vogue through her beauty secrets. “That’s one thing that I feel like I’m known for within my friends: This Tom Ford, Gucci kind of reference eye…So, y’all are here to get all the tips!” And the model is ready to deliver them, starting with a few swipes of Touche Ėclat.
“This is what the girls love in fashion,” Consani explains, wielding a tube of Yves Saint Laurent’s classic concealer. “What I learned from the beginning is you’re supposed to put the product on and let it sit.” After it’s set, the 21-year-old tops the tint off with a second coat of concealer—and another tip. “Someone told me this hack where you use highlighter under your eye right where the bag is,” she says, before dabbing on Chanel’s Baume Essentiel. “It does get rid of that shadow.”
While a smoky eye has been part of Consani’s signature look since grade school, she’s learned some backstage secrets in recent years to elevate the style. “One of my first shows was Tom Ford [in 2021],” she says. “All of the supermodels, all of the girls that I looked at for years online, I met them! And they were so nice!” Not to mention, oozing sultry glamour through metallic-tinged smoky eyes.
Using the Pat McGrath Labs palette that she deems the “chef’s kiss” of eyeshadow, Consani creates winged, chocolate-brown lines along her upper lids, then takes Byredo’s Kajal Pencil to her waterlines. “It gives you that kind of Adriana Lima stare, where it’s like, muggy,” she says of her eyeliner technique. Using a flat brush, she sets the black kajal using more chocolate-hued eyeshadow. Finally, the time has come for a touch of sparkle. Dipping her finger into a glittery champagne hue, Consani pats a touch of shimmer onto each lid. “And there you go,” she concludes, examining her work with pride.
It’s no coincidence that the Fashion Awards winner is all about the eye. Her first memory of makeup is tearing eyeshadow samples out of magazines, and trying them on with her mom. “A lot of people within my community are very centered around makeup, and it’s a big part of expression in the [trans] community,” she says. “I think if you’re gonna express it, girl, you better express it with a smoky eye—period.”
