It’s Not Too Late to Try 2024’s Biggest Beauty Trends

2024 was a fun year when it came to beauty. It’s true, we had our share of food-related beauty trends (one incoming, below), but most of what the stars and regular people alike became obsessed with were accessible, easy-to-achieve trends. From major chops to hyper-pink cheeks, it was a year for adventure and fun. With just weeks left in the year, you can still get in on the fun: Happy chopping, swiping, and painting.

No, you weren’t imagining it—everybody (and we mean everybody)—got a bob this year. “It’s a reset cut,” says celebrity hairstylist Chris McMillan, who was responsible for both Gigi Hadid’s March chop and Jennifer Aniston’s June bob. The shapes and styles, which include a fluffy long-layered Italian bob and the low-commitment midi-bob, mean there’s an option that suits every face shape and taste preference. Part of the magic of the bob is also in the styling. “Minimal effort goes a long way,” McMillan says. “It makes hair thick, healthy, and it’s easy to grow out.”

Color of the Year: Black Cherry

This year was all about black cherry nail polish. Kylie Jenner, Kate Moss, and Lisa all put their spin on the deep, moody shade inspired by the juicy fruit. The dark red hue—which can have undertones of brown or purple, whatever suits your mood—just takes a coat or two to amp up your beauty edge.

Boyfriend blush, sunset blush, lifting blush, even semi-permanent tattoo blush—the cheeks were trending this year. “Blush does a lot of things,” says makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez, who is known for keeping Sabrina Carpenter’s cheeks rosy through a combination of Armani Beauty’s Luminous Silk Cheek Tint Bold Pink (53) and Delicate Mauve (62) mixed together. “Not only does it add a healthy glow, but also some drama can and can be used to contour the face at the same time.”
