The news is out! Matthieu Blazy has left Bottega Veneta, where Louise Trotter has taken the top spot.
Blazy might have held the creative directorship of the Italian house for a mere two-and-a-half years (the 40-year-old Paris-born designer previously worked behind the scenes at Maison Margiela, Phoebe Philo, and Raf Simons), but his color and craft-focused creations became a red-carpet mainstay, anointing Ayo Edebiri and Greta Lee as fashion’s newest It-girls, and cementing the style-icon status of Julianne Moore, Michelle Yeoh and Nicole Kidman.
While Blazy’s designs may have reveled in exuberant texture and XL volume (see Michelle Yeoh on the 2024 Cannes red carpet in a strapless gown festooned with feathered leather), his red-carpet creations also celebrated a sense of the elevated everyday. Think Edebiri sporting a white shirt and jeans, crafted with trompe-l’œil effect from the supplest leather, as she co-hosted the Vogue Fashion & Film party in London in February. “It’s hard not to feel cool in the clothes!” Edebiri told Vogue.
