Today, the actor—who is currently starring in a Broadway production of Our Town—was spotted out in New York dressed like the grown-up version of everyone’s favorite “band aid,” albeit with a little more cash to spare.

Holmes bundled up for the blustery day in a sumptuous black leather coat from Kuzyk, lined with a thick, off-white shearling. The below-the-knee jacket is reversible, with an exaggerated hood, and outfitted with large patch pockets bordered with shearling. She added a bit of a ’70s flair with a pair of black flared pants patterned with a low-contrast tartan and oversized tortoiseshell cat-eye sunglasses. Still, the outfit was thoroughly modern thanks to Holmes’s timeless, slim black leather boots and her ecru knit hoodie.
The coat, with a price tag just shy of $5,000, probably wasn’t in the Almost Famous heroine’s budget. But Katie Holmes’s cozy, slightly funky look is exactly how we’d imagine Penny Lane would dress today—aided by her Amex black card of course.
