We’re in the middle of a method-dressing boom. Think of it as an extension of main-character syndrome—if we’re all starring in the movie version of our lives, why wouldn’t we dress in character? Although this practice is mostly a red-carpet phenomenon, this Thanksgiving, like recent Thanksgivings past, I’m here to encourage you to get inspired by the feast that will be spread in front of you and dress in a shade most healthy and becoming: greens green.
If your favorite side is crisp green beans tossed with garlic and pancetta or even a bit of miso; a classic midi-length silk gown from Carolina Herrera’s resort collection, or a barely-there wisp of a dress from Victoria Beckham. If you’d rather toss them all up in butter, a velvet Valentino suit from Alessandro Michele’s first collection for the Italian house, or a suede two-piece with gaucho pants from Jacquemus may be your answer.
But that’s not all! There’s an asparagus green suede jacket from Prada—appropriately paired with sweatpants tucked into cowboy boots for a low-key lounging-around-at-home look; or salad-y florals from Balmain (they’re actually olives), and Alejandra Alonso Rojas (the leaves could pass for lettuce). And it doesn’t get more Thanksgiving than a brown-and-green color palette: Elegant versions can be found at Dries Van Noten, where a green silk slip was trimmed in burnt sienna lace, and at Huishan Zhang who covered a sheer lace green dress with a heavy-duty chocolate double-breasted leather jacket (for modesty). If committing to an all-green look is a bit much, then green tights ought to do the trick. At Miu Miu, Miuccia Prada has shown that an item formerly in the realm of Peter Pan costumes can actually be quite chic when paired with a prim and proper pencil-skirt suit. Skip the greens? Not this year!
