“We are thrilled and honored to have the incomparable Conan O’Brien host the Oscars this year,” the Academy’s CEO Bill Kramer and president Janet Yang said in an accompanying statement. “He is the perfect person to help lead our global celebration of film with his brilliant humor, his love of movies, and his live TV expertise. His remarkable ability to connect with audiences will bring viewers together to do what the Oscars do best–honor the spectacular films and filmmakers of this year.” A number of other names had been in the mix before O’Brien officially signed on, though; per The Hollywood Reporter, both Kimmel and previous Governors Awards host John Mulaney passed on the opportunity to anchor the 2025 show.

It’s too early to say, though there’s a chance that Emilia Pérez star Selena Gomez could be among the performers, for her impassioned rendition of “Mi Camino” from that mind-boggling cartel musical, as could Saoirse Ronan for the delicate ballad “Winter Coat” from Blitz, Lady Gaga for “Folie à Deux” from the Joker sequel, Pharrell Williams for “Piece by Piece” from his Lego biopic of the same name, and Miley Cyrus for “Beautiful That Way” from the Pamela Anderson-fronted drama The Last Showgirl.

The 2025 Oscar nominations will be revealed on Friday, January 17. The Oscar nominees’ luncheon will then take place on February 10, with the final voting carried out between February 11 and 18.

Look out, too, for Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez), Danielle Deadwyler (The Piano Lesson), and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (Nickel Boys) in best supporting actress, as well as Clarence Maclin (Sing Sing), Guy Pearce (The Brutalist), and Jeremy Strong (The Apprentice) in best supporting actor.
