When two (product categories) become one… Victoria Beckham Beauty makes its first foray into the treatment makeup space this month with its skin-reviving Concealer Pen, the brand’s third collaboration with Augustinus Bader. Not since YSL’s Touche Éclat has a click-pen concealer been so covetable—but while its feather-light predecessor was more about brightening than concealing, VB’s version offers buildable coverage and comes in 16 shades to cater to a broad spectrum of skin tones to boot.
“Complexion as a category is obviously incredibly competitive, so it was about waiting until the time was right so that I could execute it perfectly,” Beckham, fresh from her summer holidays, tells Vogue from her London HQ. “I’m always creating what I can’t find, and, yes, I could have done this myself, but nobody can compete with Professor Bader’s 40 years in a science lab. I really believe in him and his technology and wanted it in this product.”
The specific technology she’s citing is Bader’s proprietary TFC8 ingredient, which supports cell renewal over time. “Working with Professor Bader and getting to know and understand him over the years through our previous collaborations [on our Cell Rejuvenating Priming Moisturizer and Power Serum], I knew it would be the absolute dream to create a concealer that wasn’t only the best make-up product, but had the best skincare benefits too,” she explains. Along with instantly hydrating the eye area, the Concealer Pen is clinically proven to smooth skin’s appearance after 28 days of use.
As ever, VB has “obsessed” over every detail of the product, from the size and shape of the brush (which fits perfectly into facial contours) to the precise amount of concealer dispensed in each click. “This is just the beginning,” she adds. “We’re really just scratching the surface [when it comes to complexion products].” Next stop: foundation. Pretty please, VB?
