5 Key Takeaways From Chappell Roan’s Guest Appearance on ‘Call Her Daddy‘

This week, no less a lesbian icon than Chappell Roan was the guest on Alex Cooper’s hit podcast—and, predictably, she slayed.

While I cannot say that I am full-on #DaddyGang quite yet, booking a guest like Roan (who might be ever-so-slightly outside the show’s usual demo, even if “Pink Pony Club” has undoubtedly soundtracked many of its core listeners’ bachelorette parties) has definitely gotten me closer to buying “Unwell” merch; their conversation ranged from Roan’s new relationship to her antipathy to Tesla drivers. Below, find the very best moments from Roan’s Call Her Daddy interview.

True love has come for Chappell Roan!

“I’m very in love, but I am pro-single,” Roan told Cooper on Call Her Daddy, officially reminding me why I stan her so pathetically hard. (I, too, identify as a person in a relationship who was single for most of her adult life and still identifies with singledom big-time.) “Everyone should be single,” she advised. “I’m serious. Be single. Stop dating. Be single. Have a great time alone. Find out for yourself if you can 100% be okay alone before you date. That’s what I found out. I had a great time when I was single, and now I have an awesome time now that I’m with someone.” I know nobody asked, but I totally agree.

She has a very specific type

If you’re wondering whether you, too, could one day date Chappell Roan, be warned that the answer may depend on your comfort level with insects. “I probably like a girl that collects things and is okay with an exotic pet. Owned a hamster one time and would own one again. Doesn’t give a fuck about their car. Will pick up a worm. Is not scared of, like, bugs and snakes,” Roan told Cooper. Sad for me, as a textbook worm-hated. (They’re slimy!)

Her original haters are still her motivators

“I still hate those bitches from high school,” Roan said in what is perhaps the most relatable soundbite of all time. (Seriously, if you preach forgiveness for your high-school opps, you clearly weren’t a closeted ninth-grader.) “There was one girl who, I beat her in the fucking talent show—like, whatever, who cares, I won. And she was like, ‘You did so good, I can’t wait until your voice fully matures, I can’t wait to actually hear it whenever you get some lessons and some maturity in your voice.’ I was like, ‘We’re the same age! I’ll show you!’”

She’s not a fan of luxury cars

“I drive a beater. Well, it’s not a beater. That’s actually really dramatic. It’s my mom’s old car. I’ve never bought my own car; I’m kind of embarrassed of cars in general. Like, if someone has a really nice car, I’m like, ‘Too much, too much,’” Roan said. “I don’t know anyone who I’d hang out with that has a Cybertruck.” Well, yes! Should we start counting down to the inevitable tearful Elon Musk meltdown?

She hates karaoke

“I don’t like feeling like I have to try to sing well if I’m not doing it for work,” Roan said—and, I mean…that checks out. If someone invited me to go to a dark room, get drunk, and blog for fun on the weekend, I’d probably say no, you know?
