2 Outfit Ideas for City Living

After over 12 years in Los Angeles, I recently decided to move to New York with my husband this summer. And yes, I’m having a bit of an identity crisis. My predictable 70-degree, sun-soaked days are about to be replaced with actual seasons (gasp!). Thankfully, my coworker (and one of my best friends), Aniyah Morinia—who always sports the best ‘fits when I visit—is graciously helping me plan what to wear upon arrival. Her signature uniform? Jeans and a T-shirt. “I’m not above wearing jeans and a T-shirt multiple times a week,” she tells me. “I’ve always loved that New Yorkers don’t subscribe to some sort of unwritten dress code. I can easily wear denim to an elevated dinner without getting stares—when styled correctly of course.”

Like every Who What Wear editor, Aniyah turns to Levi’s® for denim. And for warmer days, the brand’s Linen+ Denim collection is her go-to. The collection’s lightweight, breathable fabric is a game changer in the heat. So, of course, I’ve already shipped every piece she’s wearing to my NYC home. I’m nothing if not proactive! Shop the outfits she’s inspired me to wear below.

“Spoiler alert: I’ve already been wearing the striped XL Baggy Straight Linen+ Denim on repeat in the city, even before it was officially spring. For this look, I decided to go for classic yet relaxed. The thin stripes on these pants paired so well with an oversized button-up shirt layered over a basic white tee. I love wearing denim that’s patterned or has an eye-catching detail to make my outfit feel a bit more interesting. Plus, this light layering elevated my look without making it seem like I tried too hard. It’s easygoing, fresh, and cool. My summer office outfits tend to look exactly like this, fitting into my favorite category: corporate cool. The suede tote, dual-tone loafers, and sunglasses really tie this look into a nice bow.” — Morinia

“I wore the medium-wash XL Baggy Straight Linen+ Denim with an oversized trench coat, a denim hat, and yellow flats to tap into the spirit of spring. I’d wear this to go just about anywhere in the city. I love heading to the farmers market in my neighborhood on the weekends, and this look feels just right. The hat keeps me incognito, but not enough to stop strangers from asking where I got my jeans as we browse the flower selection. This look also works for both the office (sans the hat) and nights out—but for dinners, girls’ nights, events, and more, I’d get rid of the outerwear and focus on perfecting my shoes and accessories.” — Morinia
