Jaws dropped, pulses sky-rocketed and paparazzi bulbs flashed when Timothée Chalamet rolled up to the Bones and All film premiere in Venice wearing a blood-red jumpsuit, comprised of skinny trousers and a scarf-detail halter-neck. The gender-fluid, back-bearing two-piece by Haider Ackermann is just one of numerous creations by the Colombian-born French designer which Chalamet has worn on the red carpet, joining loyal A-list fans, like Tilda Swinton and Cate Blanchett, who gravitate towards his razor-sharp tailoring, fluid silhouettes and masterful use of color. Think: Swinton clad in a sequined lilac sheath dress at The Eternal Daughter premiere in Venice in 2022, a look complemented by a canary-yellow blond pixie crop, or Blanchett wearing a color-block green, black and white strapless gown, which, when worn in Cannes this year, appeared to allude to the tones of the Palestinian flag.
Kylie Jenner, too, has joined Ackermann’s legion of fans, wearing a body-flaunting, crimson and baby-blue gown from his spring 2023 haute couture collaboration with Jean Paul Gaultier to the 2023 Met Gala, and cementing herself as a fashion star. Vogue’s Sarah Mower, transfixed like many in the show’s audience, described the collection as “spellbinding.”
As Haider Ackermann is announced as the creative director of Tom Ford, here Vogue rounds up his greatest red-carpet moments to date.
